Hurst Edition Convertible

General Information

Year:   2008

There were no 2007 Dodge Vipers, but the 2006 model year was extended while the fourth generation 2008s were readied.  The fourth generation cars could be told from the previous model by the addition of some large hood vents, but they looked very similar overall.  The engine was once again enlarged, this time to 8.4 liters, and variable valve timing helped horsepower rise to a staggering 600.  Other changes were relatively minor.  A new transmission was installed, and the exhaust system lost its crossover, which lowered interior temperatures.  The electrical system was revised and run-flat tires were abandoned in favor of conventional ones with better grip, but the viper was now performing at a level where there was little room for improvement.  Incredibly, Chrysler announced that Viper production would cease after 2010, apparently a victim of the recession, although there is some speculation that the model will return in 2012.

Hurst has been known for performance automotive parts since 1958, and in 2008 they chose to celebrate their golden anniversary with a special edition Viper.  Goodies include a Corsa exhaust, special polished wheels, Motion Club Sport adjustable coilovers and Eibach springs.  It naturally features a Hurst pistol grip shifter and the Hurst logo has been embroidered into the leather seats.  The Hurst Edition is limited to 50 cars and is only available in white or black with gold stripes, except the first two, one coupe and one convertible, which were painted flat gold with black stripes.  This is the second Hurst edition and the first convertible.  The Dodge Viper is one of Tammy Allen's favorite models, and this limited edtion version is particularly high on her list.
